How did you get started in fitness?

For me it all started when I joined the United States Air Force in 1996 at the young ripe age of 18.  I met my boyfriend, who is now my husband and manager, and he worked out all the time.  Once we started dating, I started going to the gym with him, just for a little extra quality time!  Good reason right!!  Hey whatever it takes!  After working out for about three months I saw drastic changes in my physique, which intrigued me.  I started working harder for even more results.

What made you decide to compete?

I turned 30 in 2007 and decided that would be the year I pushed myself beyond the norm.  After turning 30, almost instantly I gained this self appreciation that I had never experienced in my 20’s, and man did it feel good!  I knew I would never get the physique I wanted without a deadline.  Who would get in the best shape of their life just because it’s Monday?   So, to really hold myself accountable I checked the local area for upcoming fitness competitions.  Once I found the show and category that would be right for me I had exactly ten weeks to prepare.  I took all my military training, research from over the years and the help of my loving husband and wrote out a workout and diet plan.

Do you have any imperfections that you are embarrassed about?

As women we are blessed with the gift of bringing life into the world. But consequently some of us end up with serious battle scars; better known as stretch marks.  This is my take on the whole thing.  No matter how upset, embarrassed, or ashamed we are there is nothing you can do about it.  If you’re destined to get them……guess what? You will get them.  Don’t let the things you can’t control, control the things you can.  So be proud, work hard and move on!

What were your feelings after your first competition?

It was a little bitter sweet.  I was glad I made it, but sad the preparation part is was over.  I was my own trainer and nutritionist.  I learned so much about my body in the process.  Many have asked will I ever compete again.  My answer is YES!  I absolutely love the sport.  I am addicted to fitness even more now than ever.  I plan to work hard on improving my body.

What did competing do for you?

Competing help me get to know myself on a whole new level.  Since then I’ve been training women and helping them achieve their own personal goals.  I love helping people attain the body they didn’t know was within.

What are your hobbies?

I’m typically in gym training or training clients.  The gym has become my second home!   I also spend my free time with my son and husband.

What supplements do you take on the regular?

BCAAs, Amino Acids, Whey Protein, Glucosamine, Glutamine and a High potency multi-vitamin.

How many times a week do you workout?
In my off-season I workout 5 days a week. I lift all 5 days, and I do cardio 3 times a week. In competition season I workout 7 days a week, I lift 5 days, and do cardio 6 maybe 7 times a week depending on my body fat and how close I am to my show.

What is your favorite body part to work?
I love working back & shoulders. Shoulders because I feel that's an area I need a lot of work, and I also feel that when you have great shoulders it make your upper body look great overall!

How long do you plan to compete?
I plan to compete as long as it is fun and my heart is in it! I can't say how long that is, but I don't plan on stepping off the stage anytime soon!

Do you work with competitors?
Not as of right now. I train myself for competitions, but I prefer to help the everyday woman achieve their fitness goals!
